Background

The VU, with 9 other EU organizations, executes a Horizon Europe research project, called Music360 (https://music-360.eu/), to create a European platform to collect data concerning the value of music. The platform will provide insight into the value of music to many stakeholders, including artists, sign-and-song writers, retail shops, restaurants, and policy makers.

Problem

To analyze and understand the value of music in depth, many data sources are needed. The Music360 project has already access to many databases, including those of intellectual property right societies, music providers, and music identification providers. We want to extend this with inclusion of data from Spotify.

Solution orientation

The student will develop a software prototype that uses Spotify as a data source for music. To this end, the Spotify API will be used. The Music360 has developed a data model for the value of music. The student will research whether data from the Spotify database can be connected to the Music360 model, proposes changes to this model if needed, and builds a prototype as proof-of-concept.

Organizational context

This project is a VU-internal project in collaboration with the Dutch Intellectual Property Right societes (BUMA and SENA).

Required

An independent student, not afraid of software prototyping, and interested in the European music industry.
